As respondent points out, a large number of problems affect their business at a range of leads mainly in their work environment. These problems are quite serious in the town to have low business dynamics if it has not been Chamber invitation. Hence, to help the business community cope up with this, the Chamber of Commerce has frequently conducted study on business problems and has local partnership possibilities, Organizing workshops, seminars and, Bazaars /exhibitions that aimed at business promotion in the town.

The following are the major intervention of the chamber of commerce.

Conduct Research, Advocacy and lobbying  [top]

  • Conduct economic research on leading trade and industry issues affecting the business community or identifying business constraints; propose solutions and lobbying with Government bodies for implementation of the proposed solutions.

  • Organizing panel discussions, seminars, workshops and other forums to make the views of the private sector known to the municipal, Regional or Federal level authorities on the likely impact of existing and policies, rules and regulations.

  • Participants in various government formed committees in matters affecting members' interests.

Trade information activities

  • Private trade documentation (business library services)

  • Publishing the "Monthly Trade Opportunities Newsletter"

  • Publishing "The Business Directory" of the chamber area.

  • Provide information and advice for exporters, importers and potential entrepreneurs.

Trade fairs and exhibitions

  • Organize group participation of members in local or international trade and exhibitions

  • Promote the products and services of SMEs at the chamber's product display center.

Business Development Training and Follow-up services  [top]

Design and development of managerial training programmes mainly for micro and small enterprises.

  • Training potential entrepreneurs for new business creation.

  • Training programmes for the survival and growth of existing entrepreneurs.

  • Planning, Organizing, Conducting and Evaluation of training sessions (courses, workshops, seminars and conferences)

  • Provide suitable post training follow-up services.

  • Organize and participate trade and investment promotion conferences.

  • Promote interaction or experience sharing amongst members.

Involving in social development activities such as

  • Advisory board of Adama HIV/Aids secretariat,

  • Fund raising for planting trees in and surrounding the town to make Adama green, suitable and clean environment to the dwellers, and

  • Participating in others social services as a board and executive body to organize and up lift Adama football club and so on

  • The Chamber has sent two representatives of the Business communities to reviewing the tax assessment as the result this they got solution.

  • The Chamber has organized different type of forum to create clarities and understandings based on the problem of the business communities, and have got solution.

  • The Chamber has regularly given services (Advocacy, lobbying and representation, information dissemination, support to business associations)

  • The Chamber has lobbied to extend tax payment Program to the advantage of business community by one month.

  • Facilitated CEFE training, Quality and Strategic Management Training to the business community. Those who took the training on Tax Administration and Record Keeping have started to keep record and become free from punishments for no having record and got clarity about tax administration.

  • It has managed to negotiate for reduction of tax to pay according to their business status.

  • Successfully supported and facilitated the establishment of sectorial associations.

  • Conducted two trade fair and exhibition successfully in the year 2003 & 2004.

  • Members of the board, representing their businesses, have become members of the tax assessment and tax appealing committee of the Inland Revenue and Municipality.

  • ACCSA actively engaged in various social activities in supporting Anti-AIDS club, in fund raising event for establishment of library and school in collaboration with Adama Administration Office.
