Name and Location
The Nazareth Garment S/C took its name from the town in which it is
located. Nazareth is special zone in the Oromia Region or Region 4.As it
is known the town is ideally situated at the heartlands of the country,
where roads link four administrative regions. It is a fast growing agro
commercial town. An estimated seven thousand people come and go each
working day for stop over or other commercial activity. Situated at the
foot of the central highlands of Ethiopia within the plains of the Rift
Valley, Nazareth enjoys a warm temperate climate. Hence, the Nazareth
garment S/Co. is placed at a very strategic commercial center. Whoever
has given the enterprise its name has made the right choice when it
picked the town's popular name for the enterprise because Nazareth is a
name that could be used to popularize its products.
2. Background
The Nazareth Garment S/Co. was formally established in 1992, when a
total social, political and economic transformation was taking place in
the country. It was a period when a transition from a highly centralized
command economy to a market economy was under process. Subsequent to the
production years, the Ethiopian Privatization Agency revalued the asset
of the factory & transferred it to S.C.. Following the transfer ˇ° the
Allied Hill Groupˇ± from Hong Kong entered a lease agreement & the
factory handed over by lease on October 10,2001 .
3. Organization Structure
It has been 10 years time now since the organization structure has been
introduced for the Nazareth Garment Share Company by the approval of the
Management Board. At the top is a General Manager with different line
and support departments beneath him. There is a logical relationship
between division of work, departmentali-zation, hierarchy and
coordination. The Enterprise is organized with four departments; namely
Finance, Administration, Production and Commerce. Each department in
turn is divided into smaller work units.
4. Manpower
The various departments at the Nazareth Garment Share Company are a
combination of within a number of professionals, sub-professionals,
technicians and a vast number of employees, total amount about 920 local

formal education and speciality, however, have acquired their skill
through training here and abroad.

The factory gets its electric power supply from the national grid of the
Ethiopian Electric Corporation. Water is made available to the factory
through the town's supply line and also from its own dug well.
7. Production Process
Production at the Nazareth Garment Share Company follows the
conventional system practiced in every garment factory. The process
includes cutting of the fabrics, sewing and finishing. The production
and technical department of the factory is organized following this
process.
In this section the fabrics are cut into pre
made designs. Such works as pattern making,Marking, assortment and
spreading are carried put before actually cutting takes place. After
cutting the pieces are marked with numbers for identification. The cut
pieces are then processed by the fusing press and finished with band
knife before they are sent to the sewing section.
Here, as the name indicates the cut pieces
are joined together by sewing machines. Different parts of a shirt such
as the collar and cuff, the back and front are made and joined
here. Finally the shirt is assembled and ready for inspection before it
is sent to the finishing section.
In this section the final touch and packing
is done before the product is inspected and made ready for dispatch for
sale. Ironing pressing and folding are carried out here before the shirt
is pronounced qualified as a final product to be ready for dispatch.
8. Performance
As we all well know, Ethiopia is one of countries of AGOA (African
Growth and Opportunity Act). The Act provides for duty-free and
quota-free access to the U.S. market without limits for apparel made in
eligible Sub-Saharan African countries. After a series of efforts and
reformations of the Lessee part in management and operation for two
years, a new modern production technique and managing method are being
introduced. The reward of worker is combined to his/her production
volume and quality level. This stimulates& improves the working
enthusiasm and quality concept of the worker. Further, The idle
machinery and facility have been fully taken advantage of and some
special machines have been inputted. So the two times of production
capacity compared the one before transferred to lease is realized. In
order to meet the exporting standard requirements, the factory improved
the production condition and working process. In the next half year of
2003, factory passed the inspection by the British Specialized
technology Resource, Inc. and is provided with the production license to
produce the relative order of US clients. The customers that we are
working with are mainly Cintas Uniform Co., Badger Sportwears Inc.,
Robyn Meredith Inc. etc. Therefore, meanwhile, the Enterprise is
expanding its capacity and item. Some match factories, such as carton
factory, washing factory, embroidery factory and a big woven fabric
factory, are set up or are running now. Our client will benefit more
from this efficient Group.
The main Machinery and Equipment of factory consist of various types of
sewing machines and spare parts as well as other facilities. We can
